Try a Trade Day

On Monday 17th July, 33 Year 10 students, Mr Shannon Page and myself set off from Taylors Lakes Secondary College at 10.00am by bus which was provided by Future Connect.

We arrived at Apprenticeship Group Australia (AGA) in Deer Park along with students from 3 other schools to get an idea of what is involved in the trades offered at AGA.

Students were split into 2 groups and spent time with each of the 4 trades on offer:

• Electrical
• Plumbing
• Building
• Automotive

Students were given examples for each trade of what they may be doing on the practical side if they were to enrol to do a VET subject in Year 11.

Students were able to ask questions and came away with an idea of what to expect and the location of AGA.

We then made our way to Sunshine VU to experience the new IT courses on offer next year through our VET Cluster.  Although not hands on, the students were given a presentation on what the courses will provide and where they may take them in the future.
