Library News
The cooler weather has attracted even more students at recess and lunchtime into the warmth and sanctuary of our library.
The library has been busy this term with the teacher-librarians running research skills sessions with all Year 7 students in conjunction with their Humanities studies. The teacher-librarians ran targeted information literacy classes aimed at helping students to become better at researching information. All Year 7 students were taught how to recognise trustworthy websites, to use helpful tips to find relevant websites and how to locate reputable information through alternatives to using Google.
In addition, as part of the library program, all Year 7 students in their English classes have been working towards successfully completing the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (VPRC). The VPRC encourages students in Years 7 to 10 to read at least 15 books over the year and to record their efforts online. Our school is a proud Victorian Premiers Reading College (VPRC) school, and we actively encourage all Year 7 students and other keen readers to participate in the challenge. The challenge closes this year on Friday September 8th so there are still a few weeks to complete the VPRC. Please contact one of the library team if you would like more information on the VPRC.
The library team are looking forward to celebrating Book Week in Week 7. The theme for the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week this year is Read, Grow, Inspire and we have many fun competitions, activities and displays ready to go for this week.
We hope you enjoy the photos of our students enjoying the superfast Sphero Bolt robots lunchtime activity held in the library. This event was presented by Brimbank Libraries in conjunction with TLSC library staff to celebrate Library and Information Week on Tuesday August 1st 2023.
