Lukas (G10) - Hockey, Cricket and AFL
On Thursday the 18 May, Lukas represented AICES in the CIS Open Hockey Championships at Moorebank Hockey Complex. The competition saw a total of 6 teams compete in two pools, with each player contending for a spot on the U16 and Open CIS Hockey Team.
AICES started the competition with a dominant 6-0 win against CSSA then after a 15-minute break the team then took on the CAS Barbarians, an important match the team needed to win to make the grand final. It was a hard-fought match with both teams giving their all, but our AICES team came through with the 2-0 victory, with the last goal of the match being scored by our own Lukas in the last 30 seconds of the match. This win secured the AICES team a place in the grand final.
The grand final match was played between AICES and GPS (Greater Public Schools) and the match was played in 15-minute quarters. It was an intense battle from the beginning with GPS starting with an early goal, but AICES answered back in the second quarter. The match was fast paced with a lot of goal attempts, everyone was on the edge of their seats as these two teams went head-to-head. GPS finished the match with a victorious 3-2 score.
Throughout the competition, Lukas played both IL and IR (inside left and right) positions on the field and was a valuable teammate on both sides. Lukas pushed the ball up the field in transition with great passes, as well as assisting in facilitating attacks on offence.
Lukas demonstrated to the selection panel that he is CIS team material and at the end of the tournament was announced on the U16 CIS Hockey Team that will go away and compete at All-Schools in Bathurst later this month.
We are thrilled to announce that Lukas has also recently been selected for the 2023 AAP State Hockey U18 Squad and has once against secured a spot in the NSW Cricket Academy U16 Squad for the 2023-24 season. We can only imagine the difficulty of managing these commitments along with the Swans U16 Academy, and we are truly impressed by Lukas's dedication, drive, and passion.
Well done, Lukas, and we wish you all the best at All Schools on 22-23 June!
