Years 8 & 9
The Year 8 and 9 Students were welcomed back to Term 2 with an assembly.
5 of our year 9 students were welcomed back from Leadership Camp and asked some questions about their time at Gnurad Gundidj. We are excited to welcome back Fynn Beal, Jasmine Elphick, Bess Smith-Entink, Matilda Pearce and Jarno Van Der Knijff and look forward to seeing these students show their leadership skills they have learnt throughout the year.
During the assembly students celebrated the positive behaviour of their cohort and form groups after seeing the School Wide Positive Behaviour Tally for Term 1. We are looking forward to seeing these numbers grow and opportunities to celebrate the positive behaviours of our students during Term 2.
This term, the Year 9 students have been preparing for NAPLAN to be held during week 4 and 5. This is an exciting time for our students and staff as we are able to assess how our students having been tracking with their learning. This will help our staff to best assist our students with their learning and educational needs.
On Friday 26th March 2021 (last day of term), students in Mr Johnson’s 8M & Mr O’Rourke’s 8J Physical Education classes were lucky enough to have all members of the ACA Masters cricket team (see photo) visit our school and take our students for a ‘super’ cricket session (clinic).
The ACA, the official representative body of past and present first-class cricketers, developed the Masters program in 2008 with a focus to promote and grow the game of cricket in regional areas, as well as raising funds for local cricket associations and identify new talent.
This year the East Gippsland Region was chosen specifically to assist with the rebuilding of a community heavily impacted by bushfires last summer.
One of the players attending, was none other than Mr Greg Matthews, who played for the Australian team from 1983 to 1993 and who was a brilliant batsman amassing some 1849 runs over 33 matches during his 10 year career.
Students had a terrific time, playing a game of ‘roundabout cricket’ and finishing with a ‘classic catch’ competition, with Kaden Hick 8M and Mitchell Johnson 7Q being eventual winners. A big thank you to all members of the ACA Masters Cricket team for a fun and engaging afternoon.
Peter Johnson, PE Teacher
P.S. A big well done to ex student Lillian Strong who received a cricket scholarship valued up to $1000 from the ACA. She will now have the opportunity to receive mentoring from one of the Masters Players following the tour.
This week some of our Year 9 Science classes were given the opportunity to attend a Science incursion in Boucher Hall. Students got to see and have an opportunity of using the materials that the police investigate crime scenes with as part of the Year 9 Forensic course.
