Level 1

Term 2

A big welcome to Term 2 from Level 1! We are very happy to be back at school and looking forward to a wonderful term.

Students have settled back into the classroom well, and have been enjoying small group work with their reading and maths rotations.

We have been discussing adjectives – which has been exciting, interesting and fun! In writing, we read The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson as an example of narrative writing, which we are exploring in more detail in the coming weeks.

In the lead up to Anzac Day, we listened to the story Anzac Ted by Belinda Landsberry, and worked on some related activities.

A big thank you to our parent helpers, who have been able to start coming in to assist with changing readers and listening to the students read. It’s lovely to have you in the classroom!

We are looking forward to our upcoming swimming program, which is going to be fantastic! (Please see the notice below, which went home to families, for more details.)

SWIMMING

We are all looking forward to swimming beginning next Monday

Now is a great time to encourage your child to dress themselves and to have a go at drying themselves if they are not already doing so. This includes encouraging your child to put on their own shoes, socks and learning how to tie laces or do up buckles.   All children will need to bring named thongs or crocs.  We will change into these before we go to the pool.

Please name all your child’s clothing and belongings that they will be taking swimming, including their towel, underwear and socks.  Children often forget what their towel looks like even if it does have a zebra with pink spots on it and children never claim underwear if we find it. Names would make things easier.

If your child is bringing goggles please name them also.

Please make sure you have a named plastic bag or swimming bag for all the wet gear to go into.  Have a go at practising with your child packing their swimming bag at home.

Children will need to wear their bathers (half on for girls) under their school uniform so that they may make a quick change when we get to the swimming pool.  Please make sure you pack their underwear in their swimming bag for changing into later. When the children are swimming they often get extra hungry and our eating times will change a little so packing some extra food is a good idea.  If the weather is cold it sometimes helps to pack a named hat or beanie for your child to wear after swimming to help keep warm.

Thank you,

The Level 1 team
