Learning & Teaching

What a busy two weeks we have had! Congratulations to our Years 3 and 5 students who have been busy completing their NAPLAN assessments this week. The teachers at Holy Spirit so proud of you!!

Our teachers have been busy participating in professional development days on Education in Faith and our upcoming School Review. A big thank you to everyone who has been involved in preparing these days. Our preparations for our school review continue.

While we motor on with our school review, we are also preparing our Semester One Reports. These will be sent home to families in Week 10, prior to our Parent-Teacher Conferences which will be held online on Wednesday 23rd June.  Please be reminded that our students will be dismissed at 1pm on this day.

I am thankful and fortunate that I work with such a dedicated staff at Holy Spirit.

Term Overviews

Our Term Two Overviews have been sent home via Operoo. If you have not had a chance to view these please find them below for your reference.

Assembly

Assembly will continue to be held at 2:35pm each Friday. We are trying our best to have parents in attendance, holding our assemblies on our school oval. As the weather changes we may have to move these assemblies indoors. Due to density regulations we are unable to hold these in our school hall, meaning that assemblies will be held via Google Meet. We will endeavour to keep you updated regularly, via Dojo, should assembly need to be adjusted to a online event. Fingers crossed the weather is kind to us on a Friday afternoon!

Congratulations to 1/2AL who shared their learning with us at assembly last week.

Parent Helper Courses

We are eager to get parent helpers back into the classroom environment, especially within our junior school. In preparation for this, we will be hosting Parent Helper sessions for interested parents in Prep - Year 2. These sessions will be run by Judy Smith (Deputy Principal/P-2 English & Maths Leader) and myself.

These two sessions will be held on Monday 24th May at 9:00am and 2:30pm. These sessions are only for parents who have not completed a parent session in the past or are new families to our school. Please be reminded that you must have a Working With Children's Check (WWCC) to help in the classroom (or on excursions). More information about these sessions will follow via Dojo.

Sexuality Education - save the dates

Sexuality education begins at home and is supported by schools as a part of a broader health curriculum aimed at maximising children’s wellbeing. About Real Life programs are sensitive to and respectful of Catholic values and beliefs, and provide an excellent starting point for family discussion about human sexuality and respectful relationships.

We are pleased to inform you that Holy Spirit will be holding Sexuality Education family nights for our Years 3-6 students. These family nights will be held on Wednesday June 16th in the school hall and will be led by Sue Pain from About Real Life.

We will be hosting a Parent's Only Information Night online on Tuesday 1st June. This adults only presentation will detail the content for the sessions and provide an opportunity to ask any questions you may have before they commence.

The times for family sessions on Wed 16th June will be as follows:

  • 3/4 Family Night: 6:15-7:15pm
  • 5/6 Family Night: 7:30-8:30pm

There will be a small fee to attend the family nights and bookings can be made via a TryBooking link. Please keep an eye out for further information that will be sent to families in the coming week. This information will contain further details about these events.

Thanks everyone and have a great week.

Keep smiling,

Kayla Flindt-Petersen
