Prayer of the Week and News from Holy Spirit Parish/Fr Arsenio

PRAYER OF THE WEEK

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.

In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good,I have sinned against you, whom I should love above all things.

I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, sin no more, and avoid whatever leads me to sin.Our Savior, Jesus Christ, suffered and died for us.In his name, my God, have mercy.

Amen.

To prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation, the candidates celebrated the Rite of Forgiveness on Wednesday 12th May. They listened to the story of the Prodigal son and the importance of forgiveness as a disciple of Jesus.

Gospel:  Luke 15:11-20

Jesus said, “There was once a man who had two sons. The younger one said to him, “Father, give me my share of the property now.” So the man divided his property between his sons. After a few days the younger son sold his part of the property and left home with the money. He went to a country far away, where he wasted his money in reckless living. He spent everything he had. Then a severe famine spread over that country, and he was left without a thing. So he went to work for one of the citizens of that country, who sent him out on his farm to take care of the pigs. He wished he could fill himself with the bean pods the pigs ate, but no one gave him anything to eat. At last he came to his senses and said, “All my father’s hired workers have more than they can eat, and here I am about to starve! I will get up and go to my father and say, Father, I have sinned against God and against you. I am no longer fit to be called your son, treat me as one of your hired workers.” So he got up and started back to his father.

PARISH NEWS

We hope that all our wonderful mothers had a beautiful Mother’s Day last Sunday.  We ask our loving God to bless you with his love, peace and joy.

Good news from the Parish.  This weekend we are re-starting Sunday 5pm Mass in the Church.  Given the numbers of attendance have been increasing we are pleased to offer this mass on a weekly basis.  The numbers however are still capped at 120 in the Church and QR coding is essential.  There are QR codes on the back of each chair to avoid backlog in the foyer.  We hope more school families can now attend given their weekend sporting commitments.  We are looking for volunteers to assist at these masses especially for Mass Coordinator, Reader, Eucharistic Minister (only 1 is required) and if 2 people can serve tea and coffee after mass.  If you are willing and able, please email Ruth at the Parish House on ruth.frangeskakis@cam.org.au

Pentecost, known as the birth of the Church will be celebrated on the weekend of 22nd-23rd May at all masses.  It is the day Jesus sent his Holy Spirit to be with the disciples.  When the disciples started speaking in different languages, they told all the people about Jesus and over 3,000 people were baptised that day.  Pentecost was known as the start, or birth, of the Church.  You will see Father wear red vestments as this is the colour of the Holy Spirit and we encourage you to wear something red that weekend.  There will also be tea, coffee and cake to celebrate after each mass.  A beautiful way to celebrate mass with the family so please come and join in the celebration.

Please keep our Confirmation candidates in your prayers as they prepare to be confirmed at St Patrick’s Cathedral on Friday 21st May at 7.00 pm.  We pray that they will continue to grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus and be filled with inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
