NAPLAN 2021, Years 3, 5, 7 and 9

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), the annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, will begin on Tuesday 11th May (Week 4) and conclude on Friday 21st May (Week 5).

Below are the links where you can view the NAPLAN Timetable for both Primary and Secondary students.

For the past few weeks, your child has been preparing for NAPLAN in the classroom. However, they can practice at home by accessing the Public Demonstration Site. This site allows parents and students to familiarise themselves with the type of questions and related functionalities available in the NAPLAN Online assessment platform. Just click on your child’s year level, choose the test, then Standard Test. Keep clicking next until it asks if you are an example test student. Click yes and the questions will come up.

As in previous years, headphones, earphones or earbuds is an essential tool your child needs to complete sections of the tests.

Due to COVID-19 hygiene standards, St Philomena’s is not permitted to provide headphones for our students to use throughout the testing period. Students are required to bring in their own headphones to ensure we are meeting the hygiene and personal health requirements for all students. Please ensure all headphones, earphones or earbuds are in working order and clearly labelled with your child’s name and class.

Just a reminder, NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows you to see how your child is progressing against national standards in literacy and numeracy and over time.

Your child could find NAPLAN stressful. Here are some tips for reducing stress:

  1. Listen to your child and give support.
  2. Before your child comes to school on the day of the test, be reassuring and positive.
  3. Discuss a “try your best” attitude.
  4. Practice. Do some revision of skills and practice questions with your child.
