Indigenous collection
One of our projects in the Library this year has been to create a new Indigenous collection. We have already purchased some wonderful new resources to celebrate our Indigenous culture, both locally and nationally.
Some of our newly acquired resources include:
Tell me why: the story of my life and my music, by Archie Roach
Sand talk: how indigenous thinking can change the world, by Tyson Yunckaporta
The Boy from the Mish, by Gary Lonesborough
The AIATSIS map of Indigenous Australia
Students Recommend
Wings of Fire series by Tui T Sutherland (Fantasy F SUT)
“A great series about dragons trying to stop a war. Adventurous, funny and heartwarming.”
(recommended by Kaylee, year 7).
Overdue Library Books
The CSC Library has an excellent book collection. However, an ongoing problem has been getting students to return their overdue books. The Library has therefore begun trialling a new overdue process, which we believe will prove more effective, and will also reduce the amount of paper used.
Notices will now be sent out to the families of students with overdue books via email at the beginning of each month. If this date falls during term holidays notices will be sent out during the first week of the following term. Hard copy lists of overdue books will also be given to Mentor teachers to follow up with their students.
Students with overdue items will have a week after the due date to return or renew these items. After that time students will not be permitted to borrow until their overdue loans are returned.
Please don’t hesitate to contact the Library if you require any more information.
Library Passport Program
During Term One year 7 classes visited the library to participate in a variety of orientation sessions. Activities included a Book Tasting, an introduction to the Library Research Databases, and an exploration of plagiarism and bibliographies.
