The Living Well, Learning Well Framework

The Classroom as First Site of Recognition, Participation and Wellbeing

To increase access to learning opportunities, participation, recognition and wellbeing for all students a coherent instructional framework the provides consistency of language, intent and practice is needed in the classroom. The students of St Mary’s accordingly are taught daily the language to use, the intent of each lesson and the practice to follow so they know what an effective lesson or block of learning looks like. They are taught why each element of the lesson is important and they are reassured that the learning is meaningful and worthwhile.

The five important questions the students have been taught to answer are:

  • What are you learning?
  • How are you doing?
  • How do you know?
  • How can you improve?
  • Where do you go for help?

The classroom focus on collaborative strategies and dispositions consequently increases opportunity for connection, participation and recognition for all our students.
