Diocesan Athletics

There will be some changes for parents attending the Diocesan Athletics Carnival which are outlined below in a letter from the conveners.

To Parents & carers,

I would like to provide you with the most updated information for our Primary Diocesan Athletics Carnival.

COVID Guidelines: In consultation with Kate Kenny from the CSO Armidale and CSNSW, the following guidelines will be in place for our Primary Diocesan Athletics Carnival to be held in Tamworth on Friday 13th August, 2021.

An important point to note is that as the Diocesan Athletics Carnival is an inter-school event, in accordance with advice from CSNSW, it comes under community sport guidelines. Please also note that school-based sporting events, such as School Athletics carnivals, come under the Education banner of COVID guidelines and therefore advice varies. This change has generated some confusion, so please feel free to contact me with any further questions.

The following guidelines apply:

  • One spectator per competitor. All Diocesan events will now be ticketed (via wristband) and competitors will be limited to two wristbands, one for a competitor and one for a spectator. This is to ensure that one person per two square metres restriction is adhered to.
  • The wristbands (labelled with the child’s name) will be handed out to the competitor and spectator at the commencement of the day.
  • Wristbands will be checked and recorded upon arrival at the event. Wristbands must remain on for the duration of the event.
  • No wristband, no entry.
  • Siblings of the competitor, who are under the age of 12 years, do not require a wristband or to wear a mask.
  • Spectators will be required to sit in a designated area and are encouraged to bring their own chair.
  • All spectators in attendance will be required to wear a mask and wristband for the duration, sign in using the Service NSW QR code and maintain social distancing.
  • An ‘essential adult’ in attendance is considered essential to the delivery of the sporting event or pathway opportunity. An example of this for an Athletics Carnival would be a timekeeper, judge, field/track official, a parent/carer of a student with a disability or medical concern. All essential adults will be approved by the School and/or CSO Sport Coordinator prior to the event.
  • All ‘essential adults’ in attendance will be required to wear a high vis vest, wear a mask and a wristband for the duration, sign in using the Service NSW QR code and maintain social distancing.
  • Any family member that has travelled recently should ensure that they are aware of any NSW Health requirements when returning.
  • If unwell or showing any COVID like symptoms please do not attend.
  • Please keep student mingling to a minimum.
  • A map outlining the spectator and competitor areas will be uploaded to the ADPSC website closer to the event.

I am pleased that we can continue to provide these opportunities for the students but it does come with new guidelines that we must adhere to. All sporting guidelines have always been and will continue to be guided by the NSW Health advice.

Arrival procedure:

Gates will be open from 8:00am. Upon arrival competitors and spectators are instructed to look for their school label, at a table, at the entrance to the Athletics track. Please provide the teacher at the station your name and school and they will provide you with two wristbands, one for the competitor (I suggest placing this on their non-dominant hand) and one for the spectator.

As you are aware this process is new for us and we will require your patience and support to get through this in a timely manner.

Once you have received your wristband please keep this on for the duration of the event as it will allow you to leave the venue to use bathrooms and return.

Event Start & Finish Time:

8.00 am - Gates open. Team Managers may collect School packs from 8.00 am

8.15 am - TEAM MANAGERS MEETING (all team managers/school supervisors must be in attendance)

8.30 am - Students arrive. Welcome & Opening Ceremony. Two reps per school with School Flag report at the 100m start.

8.45 am - Junior 800m and the first round of Field Events marshalled

9.00 am - Events commence

3.00 pm - Events conclude and Diocesan Team announced

An outline of the day can be found on the ADPSC website under Sport Pathways, Athletics. Parents can view this outline. Specific event times are not available for the program.

Uniform: Students are to wear their full school sports uniform. Skins are permitted however underneath your school uniform. Students are advised to bring sunscreen and hats to wear at the trials. Please remember to bring adequate water for the day.

Catering at the venue: The Parent Association of St Edward’s School will run the canteen on the day, selling a range of hot and cold food and drinks. There will be no Eftpos available, cash only. A copy of the canteen menu will be uploaded to the ADPSC website closer to the date. GoGo coffee van will be available also.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Heidi Hardaker

Coordinator Sport K-6
