Classroom News - Year 3

Miss Archibald and Mrs Sole

This week we welcomed a new teacher to our Year 3 class. Mrs Sole has been enjoying getting to know the students and the school, and is looking forward to working with us for the remainder of the year.

English

We are continuing our novel study of Charlotte's Web, focusing this week on the Questioning reading strategy. The students have been formulating 'I wonder' statements about the chapters we are reading, hoping to find answers to their questions as we continue to read the story together.

Maths

Year 3 are currently consolidating their knowledge of addition and subtraction strategies, finding the strategy which works best individually. The students are applying addition and subtraction strategies to a range of word problems and will move to applying the knowledge to solve problems involving money in the coming weeks.

Geography

We have been exploring the amazing natural and man-made features which are found in Australia, identifying their location on maps and researching fun facts about their favourite feature. This week, the students created postcards advertising a chosen natural or man-made feature of the Australian country. We have also been learning about the states and territories of Australia, exploring the history of how these sections of Australia have changed over time.

Gymnastics

We have finished up our Gymnastics lessons this week, with students furthering their skills in beam walking, static balances and floorwork. The children also had the opportunity to practise jumping on the trampolines, which was enjoyed by all. Thank you to Mr O'Hara and the team of Gymnastic teachers for sharing their expertise - we all thoroughly enjoyed our sessions!

Uniform

Please note that next week, due to the conclusion of Gymnastics lessons, Year 3 students will return to wearing their PE uniform (blue and yellow) on Tuesdays and will wear their house colours sports uniform on Fridays.
