Festival of Thinking

Creativity on display

The Art Show and Festival of Thinking (Year 7 & 8 Showcase, City School Presentations and Design displays) was also a huge success. The turnout for the Art Show was quite impressive, the awards, food and wine, music added to the cultured atmosphere, and the Art work itself was again outstanding. Well done to the Visual Arts team, led by Connie Stewart. We took the opportunity to thank and farewell Connie from her role as leader at the event, and welcome Jerome Rush to it. Connie has been faculty leader for (at least) 6 years, which is a fabulous innings. Thank you also to the fabulous Friends of Northcote for providing the drinks on the night.

The Product Design Faculty opened their doors to the school community to showcase work from Year 7 through to VCE. Students put on display works completed over the course of this year and their design thinking was prominently displayed in the workshops. This gave students a great opportunity be inspired by the creative thinking and making of their peers and gave families the opportunity to come in and talk with students about creative problem solving.

Art Show

On December 3rd we celebrated the creative achievements of our students in the areas of Art, VCD and media at our annual Northcote High School Art Show. The general consensus was that the standard of artworks across all year levels was of a particularly very high calibre this year. Some of the highlights included our Alumni guest speaker, Jessie Balletta and our acknowledgment of student excellence through our award ceremony.

We value the creative expression of our students' efforts in this once a year event and it is so rewarding for our students and staff to see such a positive response from the NHS community. See you next year!

Year 7&8 Showcase and City School

We also enjoyed seeing work from throughout Year 7 and 8, and the presentation of findings from the Year 9 City School program. Students in City School had investigated an issue to do with the city of Melbourne, conducted historical and first-hand research in to their topic, and then presented their findings to an audience of peers, staff and families.
