Year 7 Volleyball

Year 7 Futsal Final

Congratulations to our Year 7 Futsal teams who recently competed in the Darebin Futsal Cup finals.  Our teams had some fantastic matches with both teams qualifying to play off in the grand final. The girls team had a close one losing to Thornbury 2-1 and the boys were defeated by the soccer specialist school John Fawker 6-0.  Well done to both teams. We would like to our staff Cathy Lester and Craig Price and our Student coaches Eamon Coates, Jordan Katsouranis, Stan Nicholas and Liam Rooms.

State Table Tennis

Well done to our Year 7 and 8 Boys Table tennis teams who played off in the State Finals at MSAC on Nov 29.  All team members showed great skills and fantastic sportsmanship throughout the day. Our Year 8 team finished on top of their pool which qualified them to play off in the final where they had a close match but were defeated by East Doncaster Secondary College.  A big thank you to Bill Neale who has coached all of the table tennis teams this year, but unfortunately could not make it to the State Finals, thanks to Cathy Lester for stepping in and helping us out on the day.

Victorian Volleyball Junior Open

The Year 7 Volleyball Program Squads competed in the Victorian Volleyball Junior Open over 4 days down at Eagle Stadium in Werribee. This was their last tournament of the year and a great opportunity to put their hard work into play. Both teams displayed very good teamwork and sportsmanship and everyone one played very well despite the very early starts each morning. Everyone was excited and energetic to be there.

The Northcote two team, coached by our own Noey Lum finished 6th and improved as a team over the course of the tournament. Some awards were presented to the team from Noey:  Zac Martin - most consistent server;  Jack Donegan - most improved; Fred Culham and Connor Murray - most valuable players.  Northcote one had a slow start but picked up their game as the tournament progressed, picking up a bronze medal for their efforts. Well done to both teams, everyone had an amazing four days.

Thanks to our coaches Noey, Jonny and Shae for all their dedication and work with us at trainings and throughout each of the three tournaments during the year. Thanks also to Ms Jacobs for organising everything.

National Volleyball Championship

Best wishes to Lauren Jacobs and Beth Wright who are on the Gold Coast for 9 days with the NHS volleyballers, at the National Championships. They looked excited as they gathered at the airport before take-off. We look forward to hearing of good news from up north as the week progresses.

That’s all folks

Once again it has been a busy year in the Sports Department. We (Jack O’Shea and Pauline Dridan) could not have had such a fantastic year without the support from staff, student coaches and our wonderful students and families. We are looking forward to seeing what 2020 brings us. Happy and safe holidays to all.
