Boarding News

Albany has been abuzz over the last week with the Albany Food Festival, with guest chefs demonstrating their talents in various locations and on the big stage on Saturday. Well, in boarding we decided to join the excitement and have our own Masterchef event. We have many emerging chefs and last Friday night their talents were on display. This annual event is held during Term One and involves every year group in boarding. The challenge the students are given is: form teams of students from each Boarding House, create a main course and dessert, purchase all items from Woolworths within budget and use a bbq and outdoor area to cook and construct within the limited time frame.

The competition began at 4.00pm and students were quickly working to create plans and get organised. A bus took students down to Bayonet Head to purchase their products and the other students worked on setting up their area beside the Dining Hall. It was a lot of fun to watch the various culinary delights being created, with kebabs, sausages, pesto pasta, carbonara, pizza and burgers key main course items. Desserts offered a range of sweet treats, with icecream cakes and slices, smores, pavlovas and cakes decorating the table of the judges.

We were excited to have our departing chef, Mr Jaydn Steele as the master judge working with our supervisors Ms Ella Sloss and Ms Sienna Ball. By the end of the evening the judges were very full, happy and ready to determine the winning team. The winning team included: Brendan Quick, Pearce Newman, Zaydee Kiagoes, Kate Squibb, Lahnee Harries, McKayla Ettridge and Audrey Cherry.

It was a great night of cooking, celebrating and community.
