Arts News

There are lots of exciting things happening over the Easter Break in the Arts.

Art In the Park opens this weekend and is a lovely family outing to see art in a unique setting.

The Albany Town Hall relaunch is happening throughout the holidays with many varied events to participate in. The Town Hall originally opened in 1888 and is an iconic Albany building. For information about the events visit: https://artsandculture.albany.wa.gov.au/

The inaugural Cinefest Oz Albany Film Festival is also launching over the holidays. For information visit: https://cinefestoz.com

For those who would just like to stay at home and paint and draw there is a great competition being offered by Design Files for school children. The entry fee is $5 and information can be found at: https://www.tdfkidsartawards.com. 100% of the money raised will be donated to the very worthwhile Children’s Ground, an organisation supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

On Wednesday evening the VET Music students performed at the VET Show. It was a fabulous evening and really showcased our talented students.

From the Arts Captain

On Wednesday night all the Certificate III Music Industry students from Years Eleven and Twelve performed songs that we had been practising this whole term. This concert was also live streamed as there were limited tickets due to Covid restrictions. As part of the Year Twelve group we did not get to see much of the Year Eleven classes performing but it looked like they all had loads of fun as we watched on the live stream! One of my favourite songs from the Year Twelve setlist was a duet Toby Manson and Connor Clifford did called, You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling by The Righteous Brothers. Another one of the highlights had to be the final song of the night, Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis, the whole crowd was singing along to the amazingly powerful chorus as many of the parents re-lived their younger days with this 90’s song.

It was a truly wonderful experience, as it always is, to perform to everyone. A massive thank you goes out to Mr Fowler (for being the best music teacher), Cameron Findlay (Sound Engineer for the night), Mr Bailey (for running all the livestream), Ms Luxton (for organising the event), the Hospitality and Business students and everyone that came to watch the show.
