Senior School

VET Hospitality

The Year Eleven students have completed units of competency about workplace health and safety, and food hygiene. Every week these students have been preparing a range of appetisers, and recently these have included mini quiches, Thai chicken meatballs, and an antipasto platter.

Gate2Plate

Our talented Year Twelve barista students travelled to the Harvey Beef Gate2Plate Challenge at Willyung Farm where they set up an espresso coffee stand to make and serve a range of espresso coffees to customers.  Selling a range of milkshakes during their Milkshake Madness day for Middle School students was also a huge success!

The VET Show

Over the past term the Years Eleven and Twelve VET Music students have been working hard, learning and practising their repertoires, and last night their efforts definitely paid off. With the help of the Year Twelve Business and Hospitality students, the IT Department, Mrs McAllister, Mrs Ferreira and Mr Fowler we were able to put on a great show for everyone to enjoy, online and in the room.  We had a wide range of music styles, including rock, reggae, disco and funk. With the help of Mr Fowler, we built our song lists. The songs we played for you last night were chosen by the students themselves and it gives listeners a bit of an insight to what music we enjoy listening and jamming to.

Thanks to the VET Hospitality students for the coffees, they were readily available throughout the night and really boosted the atmosphere. The glue holding these performances together is Mr Fowler. Without him students wouldn’t be able to show off and be recognised for their unique talents. Mr Fowler has an amazing ability to make everyone feel like they have something to add to each song and he did an incredible job preparing us for last night.  We all appreciate the amount of effort that goes into each of these shows. We know this is a special opportunity and we are so thankful.

Last week 19 GSG students completed their Open Water Dive qualifications, of which 15 were part of the Year Ten Marine Science elective run at Great Southern Grammar. Over four days the students visited dive sites right on our back doorstep; Emu Point, Murray Road Jetty near Whale World, Seal Island, Boneyard and The Boulders, all within a short drive from Albany.

WA Meningococcal ACWY Immunisation program.

The 2021 WA Meningococcal ACWY Immunisation program will be offered at school by the local School Health Immunisation nurses.

These vaccinations will be offered free to all Year Ten students commencing in Term Two.  Consent forms will be sent to your child’s school for distribution.

The Meningococcal ACWY program has been launched in response to the increase in meningococcal infection.  Some of the highest rates of meningococcal carriage and illness occur among 15-19 year olds.  Once infected, this age group can transmit bacteria to people who are at an increased risk of infection, including young children. It is expected that providing the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine to this age group there will be a reduction in the spread of this potentially life threatening infection within the WA community.

Parents/legal guardians are asked to complete and sign the consent forms and return them to the school.  Please return the form whether you consent or do not consent to your child receiving the vaccination. If you do not receive a vaccination consent form from your child, please ask at the school office for one.

If you have any queries regarding the program please contact Ms Sally Moir- School Based Immunisation Coordinator on 9842 7526.

Vaccinations will also be available through our community based Immunisation Clinic at Warden Avenue.  Phone 9892 2499 for an appointment.
