Top Screen and Top Design – VCE Media Excursion

On Wednesday 28 April, Year 11 and Year 12 Media students attended Top Screen and Top Design as part of the VCE Season of Excellence. Students saw some exceptional examples of high achieving work which will serve as inspiration for Year 12 students for their Media folio this year. Students viewed 16 short films at Top Screen including lots of animations, as many students chose this as their medium form last year in lockdown. This was followed by a panel session where students got to ask last year’s winners ‘How did you do it?’ It was then over to the Melbourne Museum and Top Design to view some of the award-winning folios as well as some print and photography work. Year 11 students remarked on how they were inspired by visiting the exhibition, and that it has given them lots of ideas for next year.

College Middle School Play

There was great excitement amongst our Year 7-9 students who will bring to life this year’s Middle School Play, Peter Pan or The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up. The arrival of some magnificent costumes and colourful sets has inspired the cast to take the final leap of faith which creating a play requires. JM Barrie’s well-known tale allows us to journey to Neverland with the three Darling children, played by April A and Siegland M as Wendy, Peter D as John and Kailan S as Michael. Brennyn I plays the boy who would not grow up and Poppy G is his archnemesis, Captain Hook. There are two performances: 7.30pm Thursday 13 May and 3.30pm Friday 14 May.   https://www.trybooking.com/BPUYC

Year 8 Media – Stop Motion Animation

Across this term, Year 8 Media classes have been completing stop motion animations. After being inspired by the works such as Adam Elliot’s Harvie Krumpet, students have endeavoured to create their own animation masterpieces. Students are experimenting with many different types of animation including clay, cut-up, frame-by-frame hand draw digital and Lego. Some students (pictured) have even tried their hand at a little bit of green screen to help make their rocket look like it is floating through space. We hope to share a few of the finished products with you in the next few weeks.

College VCE Theatre Studies Play

Following on two weeks later is this year’s Theatre Studies Production, “boy girl wall’. The story is very relatable to the adult experience. All three VCE Theatre Studies students will appear on stage, essentially playing one character, a narrator, who creates a myriad of additional characters, both real and imagined, to explain how the central Thom and Alethea are brought together by the forces around them. There are three performances: 7.30pm Wednesday 26 May, 7.30pm Thursday 27 May and 3.30pm Friday 28 May. Tickets are on sale now. “boy girl wall” contains adult themes and some coarse language.   https://www.trybooking.com/BPUYM
