Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to our staff and students for the Athletics Carnival, which was held on Friday March 12th. The weather was in our favour with the sun shining but not too hot. There was a friendly and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day which culminated in an entertaining staff versus student relay race with novelty legs before the final sprint down the straight. Well done to all students who competed throughout the day. I saw some terrific examples of 100% effort but one that stood out was the final leg of our senior boys 4 x 100m relay with Myles Sandlant and Ethan Page giving everything they had to get themselves to the line – exciting to watch! Congratulations to all of our Age Champions who demonstrated excellence through determination and effort. We presented their medallions and trophies at an assembly last week in front of the whole school. We also presented the overall Female Champion for the day which was taken out by Ella Kerr and overall Male Champion which was shared between Jack Peacock, Myles Sandlant and Tim Parker . Thanks must go to Mr Tatchell for organising and running the day – it went well but it takes time, effort and commitment to achieve such a result. Thanks to our staff for their tireless work and in particular to the staff who set up early in the morning and packed up at the end. It was also fantastic to see parents, grandparents and friends there to support our young people. Thanks and well done to all!

Excellence

Our School Captains have continued to demonstrate excellence through their endeavours in extra-curricular activities. Naomi Gerrard was a successful applicant for the Rural Youth Ambassador Forum which was held in Canberra earlier this month. This was an extraordinary experience for Naomi to be a part of youth based discussions with her peers from other States and Territories, as well as be able to present ideas to Members of Parliament. Jaelyn Brand continued on her winning way with the Lions Youth of the Year, which was disrupted due to COVID last year. Jaelyn, once again, won the Regional Final to progress to the District Final be held in Warrnambool next week. She has quite a talent for public speaking and shared some of her winning speech at an assembly in front of the whole school, giving our younger students something to aspire towards achieving. It’s terrific to see our student leaders being outstanding representatives for our school and role modelling such positive attributes for our whole school community.
