English

During this term, Year 8 English students have been exploring a range of archetypal texts in order to familiarise themselves with ancient Greek myths and legends. Students have then been able to transfer this knowledge into their own narrative, using the texts they have studied in class as inspiration for their own.

Years 9 and 10 students have also been exploring classic texts in their studies of Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. Year 9 students have been focusing on essay writing, whilst Year 10 students have been paying particular attention to the drama and stage production of Macbeth

Junior English students were also fortunate enough to have a visit from Poetry In Action during Week 8. Years 7 and 8 students watched performances on ‘The Power of Poetry’ and Year 9 students, ‘Words of War’.

Year 11 Standard and Advanced students have had a positive start to their Senior schooling in their study of ‘Reading to Write’. Students have been exposed to a range of texts in order to compare and contrast their own writing styles with that of other authors. Standard English students have paid close attention to the novel The Story of Tom Brennan while Advanced students have studied The Collector

Year 12 students in Standard and Advanced have also completed their second HSC module this term. All students in these courses presented multi-modal presentations on their respective prescribed texts. Standard students presented their understanding of the film The Castle and how it relates to the module; ‘Language, Culture and Identity’. Advanced English students undertook a study of the ‘Textual Conversations’ between Margaret Atwood’s Hag-Seed and William Shakespeare's The Tempest.

Overall, it has been a very busy term in the English classroom and we look forward to a new term of learning after a well deserved break.
