Science Report

We are just coming to the end of our first topics in junior Science this week and this coincides with practical assessments for Years 9 and 10 in the next few weeks. Year 9 and 10 will be completing Student Research Projects in the second half of the term.

Our first excursion for the department took place on February 15 when the Year 12 Chemistry students travelled to Charles Sturt University for the day. The students were given an opportunity to use CSU facilities while working with the University staff to complete a range of practical activities found in their Chemistry course. Thanks to Mr Fitzpatrick for taking these students.

A selection of Year 10 students took part in the Rotary Science and Engineering Challenge this week at Mater Dei College. These students were given the opportunity to work along side other Riverina students to design and build a range of structures. These structures and projects were judged on the day. Results were not available at the time this article was submitted. More information will follow. I thank Mr Britton for all of his organisation.

On March 7 and 8 Questacon will be visiting the College on their Smart Skills tour. Our Year 7 students will be attending these sessions over the two days. Thirty Year 8 students have been given the opportunity to attend one session. There are still a few vacancies if any Year 8 students would like to attend. They just need to see myself if they wish to attend.

Education Interactive’s Forensic Science program “A Case of Identity” will be visiting the College on April 8th. This will give our students the chance to solve a crime scenario using a range of forensic techniques. All Year 9 and 10 students will be attending.
