Pastoral Care and Wellbeing
Peer Support
Last week a brilliant group of Year 11 students began Peer Support with our Year 7 students. The aim of Peer Support is to provide a program that promotes leadership in our senior students and engages our Year 7 students in a supportive learning environment in which to develop the skills, understandings, attitudes and strategies to improve mental, social and emotional wellbeing. The program provides authentic leadership opportunities for the Year 11 Peer Leaders. After going through the training program at the end of last year, the senior student have embraced this opportunity.
In their first session students worked in groups within their Houses. They engaged in activities about building relationships, identifying values, being organised and transitioning into High School. It was a pleasure to observe these groups in action where leadership, belonging and enjoyment were evident.
Motivational Media
Last Friday students in Years 7 to 10 viewed the Motivational Media presentation ‘Everyday Heroes.’ Motivational Media aims to both challenge and inspire young people to develop strategies that will enable them to reach their true potential so that their life choices will not be diminished through avoidable, reckless and harmful behaviours.
The overarching message from this year’s presentation was this:
When you think of heroes, generally you would think of someone who has done something huge and significant that they themselves could never accomplish. What is often missed, is the journey the hero has been on until that point in time. The journey - colossal hours, those moments of dedication, commitment and perseverance, low points where failure could have been embraced but the choice to persevere was made, those years of hard work . That is what makes up a Hero, not just a singular act of bravado, one audition, one try.
Follow up discussions and activities will take place within Homegroup throughout the coming weeks. We encourage parents to engage in these follow up discussions at home as well.
Grandparents Day
This Friday Year 7 is hosting Grandparents Day. We look forward to welcoming all Year 7 Grandparents for a tour of the College, light refreshments and the ‘When I went to School’ session. Photos from this event will be shared in the next newsletter.
Absentee Policy
Regular attendance at school is important for students to reach their potential. The College is required to record the reason for any absences as a way of ensuring that students are absent only when sick or have another good reason for missing school.
A reminder that all absences from school need to be explained with an acceptable explanation through either a phone call to the College office or through a note that is to be sent back to the College within 7 days of the absence.
An absentee note can be found on the College websitehere for your convenience.
We appreciate your cooperation with the above matter.
