On April 7, the Senior School was able to continue the tradition of celebrating the success of former students by holding the annual Dr Livesey Scholarship Presentation. It is always a great honor to welcome Dr Livesey back to the school to acknowledge the hard work of previous Year 12 students. Dr Livesey graduated from Reservoir High School many years ago, but he wants to give back to the school and the students by establishing this scholarship. He thoroughly enjoys returning to his old school and hearing what students are doing and helping them meet their further study goals by providing this scholarship.

This year we welcomed back Lacey Lu, Sweeney Marshall and Alisha Verga. The three students spoke about their journey during the final years of secondary school but also what challenges they have faced since moving onto tertiary studies.

The morning also gave us the chance to celebrate the current Senior School Students by acknowledging their hard work in term 1. It was great to have so many students in the running for the JB Voucher due to high attendance and outstanding Term 1 progress reports.

Year 12 Academic Coaching

Throughout 2022 in IMPACT sessions Mr. McNeil has run whole year level academic coaching sessions. The information provided is designed to help guide and support the Year 12 students through their final year of schooling. The sessions have looked at study habits, mental and physical health and understanding how the study scores are calculated. Photos of the recent session in the library which focused on study scores is included in this report.

It is very nice to be able to go out and experience excursions again this year. Visiting other venues is a great way to boost the teaching and learning that happens here at Reservoir High School. Recent excursions include the Year 12 Business Management classes visiting the Yakult manufacturing plant who got to see what they were learning in class in action in the workplace.

IMPACT Program

In 2022 the IMPACT program has been introduced to all year levels at the school. The Senior School students can use this time to complete SACs when there are multiple classes, so all classes complete the SAC at the same time under the same conditions however the IMPACT sessions are also used to deliver vitally important extra-curricular requirements. An example of this is delivering the Year 12 La Trobe Prepare program which can allow students the opportunity to get an early guaranteed offer at La Trobe university and delivering the Respectful Relationships program. Photos are included of a Respectful Relationships session where a trust ice-breaker activity was run where in pairs the students needed to use only verbal cues to guide their partner around the room without bumping into others or objects. Trust is important in the Senior School, and it was linked to what happens in the classroom as students need to trust one another and work together as the VCE is a shared journey and they can all support and benefit each other.

Year 11 exams and end of semester one

Wednesday June 1 will see the start of the unit 1 exam period. Year 11 students will complete an exam for all their subject and the timetable has been distributed to students on Teams and Compass. Year 11 students only attend when they have an exam, when they do not have an exam, they are able to go home and study at home for future exams. Please note that Year 12 classes will continue to run and a Year 11 student doing a Year 12 subject must attend their Year 12 class.

Semester two (unit 2 and 4) will commence after the Queens Birthday long weekend (June 14).

Changes to the Senior School team

With staffing changes due to Ms. Manser leaving the school and Ms. Purches taking on the Assistant Principal role it has meant a change in the Senior School. Ms. Lazarus has the  Learning Specialist role which means there was a vacancy in the Senior School. We welcome Ms. Popovski to the team as the new Year 11 Coordinator. Ms. Lazarus will continue her role as VCAL Coordinator, so she has not completely left us. Mrs. Gray will continue in her role as Year 12 Coordinator and Mr. Sinderberry will remain as Senior School Leader.
