Junior school students and staff have been extremely busy since our last newsletter report and we are proud of the efforts and commitment of our junior students in all their classes and extra- curricular activities they have been involved in.
Year 8 students participated in our annual Medieval Day on Friday 13 May and participated in a range of activities that promoted Medieval times. The day complemented the Unit completed in Humanities classes. It was great to see the students getting so involved in all of the activities and having so much fun. The theme of the day was further complemented by a number of students and staff members across the school who dressed up for the day. Well done to all students and staff involved and a big thankyou to Ms Duhandzija for overseeing the activities on the day.
Students continue to be thriving in Impact this term which is based around developing positive relationships with each other. Students have participated in a number of activities this term including Yr 7 Self Reflection piece and Zones of regulation where all Year 7 & 8 students have learnt about strategies to assist with self-regulation and getting in to the learning zone by understanding which strategies suit them best.
Recently all Year 8 students watched a Theatre performance by actors from Class Act who performed ‘Show Some Respect’. The show focussed on the following themes Themes explored in the play include:
Year 7 students also participated in their first round of ‘Clubs’ which allowed students from all Year 7 classes to choose a club of their choice and participate with students from the other Year 7 classes that they do not normally have the opportunity for. Clubs included Craft, Reading, Board games, Netball, Soccer, Basketball and Table Tennis. Needless to say, all students enjoyed the opportunity to mix in with friends from other classes.
At a recent Year 7 Assembly, we had a visit from Education Minister James Merlino who announced additional funding for Reservoir High School. The assembly was another positive opportunity to announce our Student of the Month recipients for March and hear from Year 7 student Scarlett Harris who read out her ‘Year 7 student perspective’ speech that she presented so well at our Grade 6-Year 7 Information night recently.
There have been many Junior students participate in Interschool Sport teams this term in Football, Badminton, Soccer, Netball and Athletics. Congratulations to all students for participating in these teams. Thank you also to all staff who have been coaching and supporting these teams through training and coaching on game day.
Our Interschool athletics team also competed in the Darebin Interschool Athletics Team on Friday 27 May and were outstanding all day. We had over fifty students from across all year levels and we were dominant in most events on the day. The team were very supportive of each other and celebrated the success of all students.
