Assistant Principal's Report
Ms Lea Volpe
I would like to take this opportunity to discuss student leadership at Reservoir High School. Our goal is to develop the leadership skills of all students as developing these skills boosts confidence, motivates students and improves communication skills including public speaking. Students also learn to collaborate and work in a team. Teachers develop these skills in the classroom but there are many other opportunities available to students outside of the classroom.
We encourage all students to be part of our Student Representative Council which is run by Ms Rogneda. The SRC meets regularly and discusses things such as fundraising, major events that are occurring at school and what improvements can be made to the physical environment.
Students are also given opportunities to be part of student forums where school data is analysed and discussions are held on what the data is telling us including the strengths and areas for improvement.
We also encourage students to be involved in events around the school such as school tours, information nights, open mornings, Grade 5 Day, Peer Support, speaking at assemblies and debating. These events are a great way to develop confidence and leadership skills.
We also have more formal leadership positions which are:
School Captains
Respect Ambassadors
Music Captains
Performing Arts Captains
Sports Captains
Debating Captains
SRC Captains
Year 7 Captains
Year 8 Captains
Year 9 Captains
Year 10 Captains
Year 11 Captains
School Council Members
On behalf of the school community I would like to congratulate and thank all of these student leaders in being the successful applicants. I would like to thank all the students who applied as they are still leaders and will have other opportunities throughout the year. I would also like to thank Ms Rogneda for organising the whole process and encouraging students to apply and a big thank you to the teacher mentors who not only interviewed the students but will act as their mentors throughout the year.
I look forward to working with all these students in their leadership roles.
