What an incredible term we have enjoyed in the Art room!

Our students have enjoyed creating a number of pieces of art, exploring their creativity, their imagination and their ability to have a red hot go! Creating their artworks has provided students with the opportunity to engage in some mindfulness, whilst continuing developing their problem solving skills and building on their confidence in their own abilities.

As mentioned in previous newsletters, our students in Grades 3-6 have created artworks, inspired by Australian Author and Illustrator, Alison Lester’s, picture story book, “Imagine”. This learning task was such a highlight in our program that we decided to contact Alison personally, to share some of the artwork our talented students created. Alison, was amazed by the high standard of artwork and was thrilled that our students were combining two of her great loves, literacy and visual arts! Her joy was so great, that Alison very generously donated a personally signed book, to each of the classes in Grades 3 – 6, to acknowledge and celebrate their efforts. We have always known that Delacombe kids are amazing, and now Alison Lester does too!!!

We have completed our ANZAC tribute artwork, with all students learning about the role the ANZAC’s have played in our country’s history, and the sacrifices those who go to war make. Some of our junior students created vibrant poppies, which were used to create large collage wreaths and others created water colour fields, which they filled with oil pastel poppies, to represent, “Flanders Field”. Our senior students continued developing their sketching skills, by creating a sketch of an ANZAC soldier. Students demonstrated a lot of persistence with this sketches, especially when it came to drawing the soldier’s hat.

We wish everyone a restful holiday break; may it be a time for snuggles on the couch, curling up with a good book or two, free drawing, an Easter egg or two and special time with the people we love the most.

Looking forward to seeing everyone for what is set to be an exciting Term 2!

Take care!
