6D

Welcome to 6D!

This week in 6D, we revisited our school value of initiative and delved into a deep exploration of what it means to use initiative in Year 6, both as school leaders and role models for our peers.

The learners engaged in a range of team-building games, all of which required us to use our initiative while also considering the other important skills to support us with this. These include: teamwork, communication and active listening. Our favourite game was the “human knot”, during which we were all tied together and needed to untangle ourselves without letting go of each other’s hands. Teamwork and communication really helped with this task!

We discussed the different learning scenarios in which initiative is especially important and used these to create our very own “Choose your own Adventure” stories. Each story described a scenario within the learning context and provided at least three possible options (adventures) that could be taken for that scenario. We collaboratively explored the different outcomes for each scenario as we embarked on our “Choose your own Adventure” journeys. We found that the responses using initiative were most effective!
