GWPS Community Relations Committee

By Kylie Bailey

The Community Relations Committee is made up of both teaching staff and class parent representatives and our main purpose is to assist with the organisation of whole school events, and to foster and develop connections between families. The 2022 class parent representatives have been busy setting up class email distributions and WhatsApp groups, the purpose of which is to:

  • Help develop connections between families in their class, so they can communicate with each other.
  • Welcome and introduce new families to the class.
  • Pass on any additional information from the teacher about things happening in their class.
  • Create a safe space for everyone to share any questions or ideas with the class.

There are still a few classes (Prep B, Prep C, 4B, 5D, 5E, 6A) who don’t currently have a class parent representative, so if you think this would be something that you would like to be involved with, please email Kylie Bailey at kylie.bailey@education.vic.gov.au

Prema, one of our current parent representatives, has written about her experience so far:

Hi, I am Prema (Nishita’s mum -2C).
It’s been my pleasure to be a CRC representative and have had a splendid experience in the last year till now.
Last year, I was completely new to the process and being part of the CRC committee. The meetings were so clear cut, organising little events like afternoon tea and Mother’s Day was communicated so well and sorted. Really proud to be working for Kylie’s team. Cheers everyone, and looking forward for more. Thanks and best regards, Prema

Kavita has also written about her experience:

Last year, I was the CRC rep for both my son's classes and I enjoyed the experience so much that I volunteered to do it again this year.  Being the CRC rep is a wonderful way of connecting with other parents and being involved with the organisation of school activities.  I personally enjoy being able to provide assistance when needed to both parents and teachers.  It is also a wonderful way to give back to the school and be part of the school community.

New Families Afternoon Tea

Last Thursday 31st March, we held our first New Families Afternoon Tea for the year. It was a wonderful time for our new families to connect with each other, with some of the parent representatives and of course some of our wonderful teachers. It was lovely to hear from a few of our current CRC parent reps, Praveen, Nishani and Sudha, as they shared their experiences about GWPS so far.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the organisation for the event, prior to and during the afternoon tea. A special mention to the members of the Community Relations Committee who were able to attend and connected with our new families.
