VCAL & VET

Practical opportunities have recommenced and it is great to have them back.

Here at St Bede’s College in the VCAL Program we have kick started the year with many of the varied learning activities that will help satisfy the learning requirements of the course.  The outcomes of the VCAL courses from Foundation through to Senior allow students to engage in opportunities that help build layers of confidence in and outside of the classroom.

We aim as a College Community to provide many varied opportunities to prepare our students for their ‘Next Step’ in life; equipping them with the skills necessary to be well informed citizens of the world. The day-to-day program has three days at school covering the required evidence for Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills and Personal Development. Students then attend TAFE, undergoing the studies in their chosen VET and the final day is dedicated to honing their skills learnt in a Structured Work Learning environment with an employer aligning with their VET.

St Bede’s College has cemented a community partnership with the Food Security Network. This opportunity for the students allows them to set up, grow and harvest food for charity organisations such as Food Bank Australia and the Asylum Seekers Hub in Footscray.  The Community Awareness/ Engagement program is aimed at managing a resource that we as a college utilise throughout the year.

Students are challenged with many of the varied activities presented over Term 1.

All in all, the first term has been a rewarding one for all involved, we as a staff are striving to create an environment that helps encourage students with all varied capacities to do their best. Creating an environment that encourages such a fact helps set the standard and culture required for the experiences ahead.
