Principal's Update

Our students are starting to learn that time management is quite a challenge with home learning and out of school commitments. It is important that we work together with families to ensure that students develop the necessary skills to manage their time and schedule home learning to minimise pressure and maximise learning experiences. Students should be entering their home learning tasks on to their Outlook calendar which should be pinned to their toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Parents can have their child share the calendar to help with organising their home learning. It is important that if families are taking a mid-term break that students inform teachers and find out how they can ensure their learning is not interrupted. We expect our parents to support their child keeping up to date with the learning while away as well. Our Home Learning Policy will be taken to School Council next week for endorsement and will be attached to our next newsletter.

CREATE Excursion to Wizard of Oz

Our students attended the Wizard of Oz on July 23rd as part of the CREATE Visual and Performance Program. It was a very visually creative performance and one that our students truly enjoyed. The students were an excellent audience and it was a great day out for all.

Curriculum Day Friday August 10

Students are not required at school on Friday August 10th. Our team will be having a full day of professional learning and curriculum collaboration.

ICT Parent Information Session

It was wonderful to see over 50 parents last week, learning about how to support their child with learning. Sarah Keating, Leading Teacher for Curriculum and Pedagogy and Deb Kirk, Assistant Principal Curriculum and Learning, led the session. Parents were guided through our use of Education Perfect, Microsoft Teams and OneNote as well as accessing outcomes for Learning Tasks in Compass. Parents signed in and navigated through the programs and were able to understand how students use the tools and receive feedback on their learning. It was a wonderful night. Thank you to all who attended.

Math Circle Co-Curricular

We would like to invite students to join a Math Circle. The Math Circle is to enhance mathematics beyond the classroom encouraging creativity. It is a great way for students to develop intuitive thinking skills and learn new types of math. Math Circle will be held weekly after school and offer students the following:

Exploration, practice and in-depth study of mathematics topics
Linking concepts to real world applications building on topics from the curriculum
Promote critical thinking skills working with mentors, peers, community links and competitions
Develop collaboration, leadership and problem-solving skills in maths and STEM based learning areas

Intern Principal

I will be having an Intern Principal shadowing me in my role as Principal for 7 weeks across this term and next. It is wonderful to be part of the UP Program for aspiring school leaders. Jason will be starting his time with us on August 18th. He will be joining our leadership team and contributing across a range of areas as part of his learning journey. Below is a short bio and photo. I am sure you will join me in welcoming Jason into our community.

Jason Tickner has worked in a range of leadership positions within independent, catholic and state schools over a number of years. He has a wealth of experience leading teachers effectively and managing students in a variety of school contexts. Currently Jason is a Leading Teacher VET Curriculum & Pedagogy at Hallam Senior College a position he has held for the past 3 years. He is currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Principal Preparation through Monash University, which will see him working at Beaumaris Secondary College completing his Principal Internship. Jason is a passionate educator who wants to use the skills, knowledge and experience he has gained to be an exceptional leader in a progressive and innovative school environment. His career goal is to lead teachers to support the needs of young people by fostering excellence, personal development and inquiry building their capacity to be lifelong learners in a modern world.
