Carlsruhe Annexe /

Main Campus - Year 4

It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of week 3 already. If you walked into the classrooms or Carlsruhe Campus and watched the students at work or outside completing jobs you would think they had been in Year 4 for months. We are loving the ‘have a go’ attitude of the students and the cooperative way they are working together to complete the Carlsruhe jobs.

Yesterday, a newsfeed went home to families with information about the Digital Learning Policy for our Year 4 devices. Please sign and return this as soon as possible so your child can begin using their device in the classroom.

This week, students began the process of borrowing books from the library to read at home and in the classroom. Books are borrowed for two weeks and need to be returned before more books can be borrowed.

If your child would like to reborrow a book to finish it, they need to put a note in the back of the book for Susan, letting her know this.

Next week, on Friday 24th February, we are planning a day at Carlsruhe for all of the Year 4 students. Students will catch the bus at the usual time (8:45am) in the morning and work together during the day to complete a range of reading, writing and maths activities that focus on the Carlsruhe Campus. Please be aware that CU2 students can not have a school lunch order on this day and must bring their own lunch.

Hats - please remind your child to bring their hats and water bottles to school each day. We have a number of students who are forgetting them at the moment.

Homework - We have had a number of parents asking about homework expectations in Year 4.   We will gradually be building up the homework expectation during Term 1 to include:

  • Reading - Independent reading or reading to someone else— try for 15 - 20 mins most days.
  • Spelling - 5 to 10 words from our focus sound — 5 mins daily.
  • Mental Maths practice— during this term we will be identifying individual targets for learning times tables facts and revising those for 2, 5, 10 and 3, which students are expected to know by the end of Year 3.

If you have any queries please contact your child’s teacher.
