Sports Report

Physical Education classes have started off wonderfully this year. It is great to see so many students enthusiastic for PE, enjoying physical activity and working together to improve their skills.

This term the Foundation and Year 1 classes are developing their fundamental motor skills through a variety of games and activities. The Year 2-6 students have been working on their catching, throwing and teamwork skills through the game of Newcombe, with the Year 4-6 students moving on to learn/revise Volleyball skills and rules through Volleyball games and activities. An Athletics Unit will commence for them shortly.

School and Interschool Sport

Term 1 is a very busy time for school and interschool sport! All interschool sport, and most school sporting events, must have assistance from parents/carers/school community member in order to take place. Please consider offering your help to enable our students to participate in these sporting opportunities. (Bonus: no experience is necessary and you will be well supported in your role!)

Tennis

Last Monday our tennis stars, William M. (SU1) and Alex T. (SU5), represented our school at the CDSSA Tennis competition in Kyneton. The boys did a great job, facing tough competition in very windy conditions. Both William and Alex experienced success and enjoyed the day. Well done to them for their great efforts and for representing our school so well. Special congratulations are due to William, who after winning all his matches in the morning, went on to the finals and has progressed to the next level of competition. William will go on to represent the Cobaw District at the Division Tennis Competition on February 22. We wish him all the best at this competition.

A huge thank you to Mrs Kat Richardson for overseeing the tennis trials and well done to all of our students who tried out for our team.

Summer Sports

Training has commenced in the Senior Unit for our Summer Sports of Volleyball, Cricket and Tee Ball. About half of our Senior Unit students will compete in these sports, with the remaining students taking part in our interschool Winter Sports next term.

We are seeking parents who can assist with teams on the day (supervision, and possibly scoring and/or umpiring). The more help we get, the more we can share the load! If your child is taking part in any of these sports and you can assist, please contact Andrea Evans for Volleyball, Kat Richardson for Cricket and Ashleigh Dodds for Tee Ball. The Summer Sports are held in Romsey and scheduled for Friday, March 3.

Whole School Cross Country

It’s time to start training now for our whole school Cross Country which will take place on Wednesday March 8 (Week 7). The focus of the Cross Country is fun, fitness and building a strong school community spirit. For students in Years 3 – 6 it is also the selection trial for our District Cross Country which will be held at Hanging Rock on Thursday April 27 (Week 1, Term 2).

All students will compete in our Whole School Cross Country, with Years F-2 running laps of our school oval and Years 3-6 competing in 2km and 3km courses near Gilbert Gordon Oval. Children who are in Year 3-6 who turn 8, 9 or 10 years old in 2023 will run a 2km course and children who turn 11, 12 and 13 years old in 2023 will run a 3km course.

Students, if you are interested in cross country running start your training now, you’ll only get better! Plus, your improved fitness will benefit you in other sports you play as well as in your everyday life. Come and see me if you’d like some tips or advice on cross country training.

Year 4-6 House Athletics/Athletics Trials Day

The House Athletics/Athletics Trials Day for Year 4-6 students is scheduled to take place at the Kyneton Showgrounds on Thursday March 30. The day is a chance for students to showcase the Athletics skills they have been learning this term, earn House Points for their House and to try out for a place on our District Athletics Team, while having a lot of fun in the process!

We need A LOT of parent/school community members to help run events on the day. Please consider offering your help at this fun event. More details will be sent via email to Year 4-6 parents/carers soon.
