Welcome to 2023!

What a great start to the year we have had already! Students have been busy learning more about their new classmates, teachers and the routines we have in Grade 3/4. We particularly enjoyed our Tabloid Sports where each class had the opportunity to compete in the following activities:

  • bean bag toss
  • kicking a goal
  • shooting hoops
  • Vortex throw/catch
  • egg and spoon relay
  • ladder run

Homework

Home Reading Diaries must be checked each night and come to school Friday with a parent signature. Students will need to read a minimum of 20 minutes for 4 nights each week.

Below is an example of how we would like diaries to be completed. Each day should include comments from the students about what they have read as well as a parent signature at the end of each week. Thankyou!

Swimming Sports

The Year 3-6 Swimming Sports is scheduled for the 14th of February (Tuesday, Week 3). Students will need to bring the following items:

  • drink bottles
  • snacks
  • swimmers (to be worn under uniform)
  • thongs

Thankyou to Mr Smith for organising this event!

Netbooks

We are planning to send all netbooks home on Friday 17th, February (Week 3) as long as the Grade 3 netbook cases arrive before then. Students have been learning about the safe use and appropriate treatment of their netbooks in preparation for this.

Please also remind students to bring in their charging cords each day along with their netbooks to avoid having them run flat. Thankyou for your assistance with this!

Learning in Weeks 3 & 4

Mathematics: We have enjoyed a variety of Measurement activities to start off our learning in Maths this year. This fortnight we will continue to explore informal and formal measurement as well as looking at Place Value.

Writing & Reading: In Writing, students have explored Narrative Writing. We will complete this writing style at the end of Week 3 with our Big Write celebration and move into Persuasive Writing during Week 4. In Reading, we have discussed the importance of choosing a 'Good Fit' book - one that we find interesting, a little challenging and fits the purpose of why we are reading. This fortnight we will focus on exploring new vocabulary and using what we already know to predict and identify with what we are reading.

Topic: Our unit for this term is called 'The Game of Life.' Students have been learning about having a healthy lifestyle as well as concepts such as identify, taking responsible risks and monitoring our thinking. This fortnight we will focus on health messages in media such as 'Slip, Slop, Slap' as well as healthy sports and hobbies.
