PRAYER

The church calendar is divided into seasons.  Currently we are in what is termed ‘Ordinary Time’.  What is “Ordinary Time”? It is the time in the church calendar that begins after Christmas, specifically after the Baptism of Jesus is celebrated.  This season continues until the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of Lent. We will not be in Ordinary Time again until the Monday after Pentecost.

During Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter, we celebrate and remember the main events in Jesus’ life.  In the 33 (or 34 depending on feasts) weeks of Ordinary Time we come to know and love Jesus through the miracles he performed and it gives us an opportunity to recall great events such as the calling of the twelve apostles and the sermon on the mount.  Next Sunday is the last week of Ordinary Time for many weeks.  Perhaps this is the perfect opportunity to spend some time with God in prayer.
