Dear KVPS community,

This week has been a very busy week with the commencement of NAPLAN, Curriculum day and the FUN run.

Touching on NAPLAN, over the coming week, learners in grades three and five are completing the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). The results of the tests provide information for parents and teachers about a child’s performance in literacy and numeracy. This information can be used to support teaching and learning programs and improve student achievement. We encourage all learners to do their best in their assessment, but also do not spend a lot of time practicing or drilling for these tests. We try to treat it as close to possible as a normal day and school learning task, and encourage you to do the same with your children.

This year learners are completing the NAPLAN online. This will be different from the way our year five learners completed the tests in year three. Learners have had a go using the testing platform at school to become familiar with it. So far, our learners have done a great job at giving it a go. I would like to thank all staff for their efforts in preparing and supporting our Yr 3 and 5 learners.

Tuesday the 14th of March was a curriculum day. Teachers spent the day building on their Literacy and Numeracy pedagogical toolboxes to be able to better meet our learners point of need. As a staff body we also updated our knowledge of anaphylaxis, NAPLAN administration and engaged in a team building activity.

The letter P

Yesterday, our Prep teachers organised a Picnic with the Principal to reinforce learning about the letter ‘P’. It was a pleasure to join the Prep teachers and learners sitting on patchwork blankets and enjoying a picnic during eating time. The Prep students had a lovely time playing tag, where they were all ‘It’ and I was the only one being chased. I must say the Preps were too fast and my running speed was no match for them.

Staff at KVPS, including teachers, education support staff, office staff, the assistant principals, and the principal are committed to providing a supportive learning environment for all our students. Our staff take their work very seriously and feel privileged to be able to play an important role in each child’s education.
