The 2015 academic school

year has commenced well. A special welcome back to all students and in particular a very special welcome to the following:

The 251 year 7 students.
The Year 11 students from St James College and the many other Year 11 students from other schools.
All new students across the many different year levels.

VCE RESULTS -2014:

The results for 2014 were pleasing with 29 students scoring 90+ with the Dux being Andrew Waterson- 99.65.

Patrick Hurst as College Captain received a perfect score of 50/50 in English and Aleksander Grizelj in Year 11 perfect score in Japanese. Eight of the College leaders had scores of 90+. There were 30 boys with scores of 80+ which was a little down on the 46 of the previous years. This is an area that I would like to see improved as we go through 2015. While VCE scores are only one measure of a schools success in the eyes of the community they are an important measure. Each of the students who achieved a score of 90 + will be recognised at a special school assembly.

COLLEGE THEME:

The College theme for 2015 is ‘Meeting the Challenge’. The theme this year invites each of us to look to the year ahead and see what lies on the horizon. In looking ahead one can just let this happen or take hold of the future and shape it. Whether in the academic, sporting or cultural area the aim is just not to achieve/work at the norm but to challenge yourself to achieve a better result. Become a ‘doer’ rather than a person who just talks about possibly doing or improving on things. Set the bar a little higher and develop at attitude which aspires to achieve the best. Challenge yourself to be organised, challenge yourself to do what you said you would do, challenge yourself to achieve the goals you set, challenge yourself to be disciplined or even to keep an open mind and look at things a little differently. To put it simply:

-set higher goals

-be a doer.

-Never give up-be proud of what you achieve.

It is like climbing a mountain where we have the goal/task at hand, we plan and organise the team and the equipment and begin the journey. There will be difficulties on the way but with a strong team we can work together to overcome the problems and set a new direction. Together we will achieve the goal of reaching the mountain top and there will be a smile because we know the goal set has been reached. Learning and schooling is no different. Have the courage to begin that journey in 2015.

COLLEGE BOARD:

The Trustees of the De La Salle Brothers have appointed Mr Anthony Brinkley (parent) as the new chair of the College Board. Anthony has been a member of the College Board for the past number of years and has made a significant and valuable contribution to it. It is an historic moment in the life of the college as Anthony is the first lay Board Chair of the St Bede’s College Board. We congratulate Anthony on his appointment and wish him well.
