Clay Target Club News!

The Lilydale High Clay Target Club have had a very interesting year in 2019.  We have had a number of new students take up the activity and we have an ambitious plan, to provide an even more interesting and professional experience, for students in coming years.

We would like to encourage students who may be interested, to come along and try this sporting opportunity.   We are hopeful of an increase in student numbers next year and we are pleased to announce, that a number of sponsors, have donated money to assist the team purchase clothing, training aids and start a monthly competition in 2020.  We hope that this will make the activity more affordable and interesting for the students and accelerate their progress.

Our current sponsors are:

  • Knoxfield Automotive Repairs - Geoff and Kim Licari
  • Melbourne Cleaning Supplies - Dieter Edelmaier and Pasq Di Virgilio
  • FX Design - David and Brooke De Pedro

There will be more sponsors added to our list.

For those wanting to join the club, we train every Wednesday after school at Melbourne Gun Club.

One noteworthy recent result, is that of  Ben De Pedro.  Ben is a Year 7 student who only started shooting this year.  He quickly passed the State Firearms Safety course and obtained his Junior Firearms licence.  He has been a regular participant on Wednesday afternoons at Melbourne Clay Target Club.  He has displayed a very impressive development in his skill level in this activity and has represented the school at all of our interschool competitions.  In addition to this, Ben has lately competed at a number of venues around the state, on weekends and has done extremely well in the open competitions that he has attended.

Most recently, Ben attended the State Championships at Echuca and as the picture below indicates, he did extremely well.  Ben WON the Junior Division, then came 2nd, in the Open C Grade event.  This is a spectacular achievement for someone who only started the sport this year.  We are certain that there many awards awaiting Ben in coming years.
