Teaching & Learning 5H

What a semester we have had in 5H!

Can you believe the first half of the school year is almost over, with so much done and achieved? Let 5H tell you just what we have been up to this semester…

In Mathematics we have been focusing on not only how to answer a question, but more so how to show our working and thought process behind the answer. 5H have been using a range of written, hands on and verbal strategies to explain and show our thought processes throughout a maths lesson. Students enjoyed the challenge when asked to use items from around the room to show how they have achieved their answers, in a series of worded maths problems. Through the use of multiplicative thinking students showed they could draw, create and describe the answers to their Scaffolding Numeracy problems.

In Literacy, 5H and indeed the whole Year 5 cohort have been incorporating our inquiry topics into our reading and writing. Students in 5H have been exposed to texts such as ANZAC Ted and Boy Overboard, which have led the path to activities such as our ANZAC Information reports, also our class activities on Immigration and Migration to Australia. Students have enjoyed the chance to read, write, research and create work based around current events and events of significance from our past.

Well if that wasn’t enough excitement in the classroom, we have also had a busy semester full of whole school events, sporting events and much more. Here are a few honourable mentions from our semester in 5H…

We were walking on sunshine during the Colour Run, one might say 5H’s true colours came out that day. We pushed ourselves to the limit at cross country, some of us even making it through the next two levels of the competition, however all of us showing resilience by making it all the way to the end. Finally, we have been testing our skills in our Year 5 Soft Ball Clinic each week, developing new skills and team work drive.
