Year 9 Science Magnet Challenge

Students from 9E and 9I participated in a Magnet Challenge in their Science class this week. The goal was to suspend as many paperclips as possible in the magnetic field of a bar magnet. A bar magnet was attached to a retort stand and paperclips attached to cotton were positioned close to but not touching the magnet. Teams who worked collaboratively and allocated tasks were the most successful in suspending the paperclips. Teams encountered a few difficulties during the challenge, such as paperclips sticking to the bar magnet and to other paperclips, and needing to be very careful to avoid nudging the retort stand. The highest number of paperclips that were suspended in the magnetic field was 14.
