Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge Update

Well done to EDSC students, who have smashed through the 2,000 book milestone in the Reading Challenge this year. 172 readers have now registered an amazing 2,133 books.

Well done to the following students who have now read at least 15 books this year: Isabella C. of 7J, Alicia K. of 8H, Duc B. of 9C, Sara A. and Hajra A. of 10A, Marina G. of 10C, and Tida A. of 10I. All students who read 15 or more books will join our end-of-year Challenge celebration and receive a certificate from the Victorian Premier.

Congratulations to Haim K. of 10C who won a $10 canteen voucher in this fortnight’s random draw, just by entering her books into the Google Form on our Challenge webpage

This year we are counting the books Year 7 to 10 students, and all school staff, read from January 31st to September 2nd.

Students can read ANY books they like (excluding children’s picture books). We are awarding lots of individual prizes to students throughout the year to acknowledge reading efforts.

All details and the latest leaderboard are on our EDSC VPRC webpage.

Holiday eBook Reading

The EDSC Library is open online 24/7 these school holidays with students being able to access eBooks, audiobooks, and videos anytime.

Our diverse eBook and audiobook collection can be borrowed through the Sora app or from our library website.

EDSC Library staff have produced instructions for students to customise Sora to improve accessibility, especially helpful for students with dyslexia or reading difficulties.

Students can also learn how to link their Sora app to public libraries, instantly increasing the range of eBooks and audiobooks they can read.

The Sora instructions can be downloaded at this link.

ClickView videos, including films and TV shows, can be streamed from our library website.

Students should make sure to include any eBooks and audiobooks they read during the holidays in their Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge total.

Lunchtime activities in the Library

Students from all year levels have been busy in the Library during Term 2, but not just reading and studying.

Small groups have also been enjoying the games, Lego, and jigsaw puzzles that the Library offers at recess and lunchtime, with chess being particularly popular.

Students can borrow games or puzzles by asking staff at the Library loans desk.

Book Week is coming

Students are encouraged to start planning their perfect costume for Book Week in Term 3.

EDSC will celebrate Book Week between 22 and 26 August with a day to dress up as a favourite book character, competitions, activities, and an author talk for Year 7 students.

More details will be revealed by the Library in early Term 3.
