International Baccalaureatte 

Dear Saltwater Community,

On Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th November, Saltwater College engaged in our verification visit-the final stage in becoming an internationally accredited IB World School. Di Fisk and Nicholas Palmer visited our school and had many conversations with the community that contribute towards the success of Saltwater, including staff, parents and students. Alongside these conversations, our verification visitors also reviewed policies, procedures, teaching and learning documentation and visited classrooms to see our teachers and students in action. They gave our staff incredible feedback around the learning that is currently taking place and were amazed to hear the level of knowledge and enthusiasm that our students were able to articulate in regards to their current Units of Inquiry.

A huge congratulations was given to the entire Saltwater Staff for creating such a ‘unique and  constructivist’ approach to teaching and learning, thus creating a holistic learning environment where all stakeholders understand and live by the vision and the mission of the school.

Di and Nick also mentioned that they believe that there is a sense of pride within our school and it is clearly evident. They were able to observe children taking ownership of their learning and were excited to see that they have a voice and show agency at this school. There is a sense of belonging. 'It feels very connected- the environment, the people and the community'.

They were also able to see clear evidence of differentiation across the school and children can articulate what they are learning and why.

Both reviewers reiterated that we have a rare and unique culture at Saltwater which they rarely see at other schools. As a staff, we are very proud to receive such feedback and look forward to receiving our final report in the coming weeks. We look forward to sharing with our community and we thank our community, as always, for your continued support. It is the partnership between staff, students and families that makes Saltwater College so unique and special and we continue to celebrate this together.
