Year Six News

Dear Year Six Families,

What a fortnight it has been for our Year Six cohort. We are quickly approaching the end of the year as our wonderful students begin to transition into Year Seven.

Our Week Seven and Eight events began with Job Day, organised by Amelie, Laiba and Ryan. This event was linked to the ‘taking action' phase of their Year Six Exhibition. This group had a focus of Education as they investigated their central idea ‘Education may provide opportunities to end the cycle of disadvantage.' As part of their action, they organised a school-wide dress-up day that encouraged students to dress as their future career choice. Participating students were required to donate a gold coin. Congratulations to all students involved the funds raised will be donated to UNICEF Education.

We have now completed our final Unit of Inquiry for 2022 under the transdisciplinary theme 'How We Express Ourselves'. Students have developed their knowledge about the impacts of their digital footprint. They have an understanding of the risks and benefits of the world wide web. Lastly, students have learnt strategies that can be used to protect themselves online. To conclude this unit, students have created presentations about online safety to share with other classes around the school.

Over the coming weeks, students will be beginning to prepare for their upcoming Year Seven NAPLAN. We have been reviewing narratives by analysing work samples and identifying how we can improve our writing against the marking criteria. In reading, students have looked at various naplan style comprehension text as they refine their reading strategies. For maths, students are using RUCSAC and the four operations to answer a series of worded problems. One big change for our students is completing their upcoming NAPLAN through a computer for the very first time. Students are preparing for this change by using socrative to replicate the test layout. Students are also using typing club as they work to build their typing stamina and accuracy.
