Last Day of term 2Friday 24th June

What a cold wintery week we have this week! We will be sure to rug up and keep the rooms warm throughout the week. Over the next few weeks we will also provide some more options for inside activities during lunchtimes on top of our daily lunch time club. Thanks to everyone for their flexibility over the past few weeks. We sure have had a lot going on! This week looks to be a structured and settled week at the campus, which will be nice. Have a wonderful week everyone!

Scotsburn Assembly This Week

This Friday we will hold another Scotsburn Assembly. This will be held at 3pm in the shed. A reminder that all parents are welcome to attend our assemblies and have a look at what has been happening! Our Grade 6 leaders have been doing a brilliant job coordinating our assemblies and it is always wonderful to showcase the students’ learning and achievements!

Scotsburn Working Bee

With the wet weather setting in, it looks like we will need to hold off on our scheduled working bee until after the winter period, when the weather starts fining up. This is ok as the yard is looking really tidy at the moment and the major jobs that we were looking to complete are not urgent. We will still be having the fantastic assistance of Ian Rossiter each Thursday completing some yard jobs. If you would like to volunteer some help on a Thursday, please let us know, I’m sure Ian will have lots that he would love help with!

Bread Bag Recycling Program

We are participating in Wonder White and REDCycle’s initiative in recycling bread bags! This is a wonderful chance for our school community to participate in a sustainable practice that helps our environment, while earning rewards for our campus and school. For every 5kg of bread bags we collect our school earns 500 points that can be used for purchasing sports equipment. We have a collection box situated in the old building for our campus so let's start collecting as many bread bags as we can! The rule of thumb is that if the bag contains some sort of bread (including rolls etc.) it is a soft plastic and can be recycled!

Specialist Snapshot

Kelly Sports is returning this Thursday at Scotsburn. The focus will be the fundamentals of baseball so hopefully the weather clears up and we can get outside. The following Thursday we have a special guest from Drama Victoria visiting our school. Her name is Jane Carter and she is a professional drama teacher. She will be taking SC2 and SC3 through a half day drama and acting workshop, which will be absolutely wonderful!

Thanks,

Jess and Liz

SC1 Learning Snapshot

SC1 students are having a fabulous time in Music with Mr Skilbeck. Mr Skilbeck is the Music Specialist teacher at our Buninyong Campus. It is wonderful to have him share his knowledge and expertise with our students. There has been lots of fun around singing and movement that students have thoroughly enjoyed!

This week in Maths, we are starting to investigate Subtraction. We brainstormed lots of words that have the same meaning as subtraction. You may also hear your child use some of these words at home. “Take away - minus - decrease - subtract”.

Thanks,

Ana

SC2 Learning Snapshot

SC2 would like to express a huge welcome to Flynn and his family. Flynn has joined SC2 and is settling in beautifully.

This week SC2 students have been looking at the features of nonfiction texts. They have been busy finding and  labelling different elements and they even created a page to showcase as many non fiction elements that they could.

In maths we have been learning about fractions of a collection - don’t forget to ask your child/ren about how they do this!

Thanks,

Dani

SC3 Learning Snapshot

Congratulations to our boys and girls AFL players last week who participated in the Division Winter Sports Day. They did a wonderful job and it sounds like the girls may have progressed to the next stage of competition - well done!

In class this week we are focusing on using different strategies to solve multiplication problems, and the students are loving using the Lattice method. It would be great to have a chat with your child at home about this, I am sure they would love to show you the amazing mathematicians they are developing into! We are also spending some time reflecting on the learning that has occurred across the semester, in preparation for 3 way conversations.

Next Friday, SC3 is lucky enough to be able to attend an exciting excursion to Melbourne, to go on a tour of the MCG as well as attend the Sports Museum. This will be an amazing experience for the students, with lots of interactive activities across the day. Please keep an eye out on Compass for details and consent forms. The excursion will be will all Grade 5/6 students at Buninyong Primary School.

Thanks,

Jarrod
