Round Square International Service Project December 2023
With Round Square International Service Projects returning at the end of 2023, we are pleased to share with you the dates (5th to 18th December 2023) and cost (approximately $3000 per person excluding flights) as well as a brief overview (below) of our upcoming RSIS Project to Thailand.
RSIS Projects are available to students aged 16 and over from any Round Square school in the world. Students participate on an individual basis and there will be students and staff from Round Square schools all around the world. Bursaries are available and the bursary programme will be launched after the Easter break, with a more detailed outline of the Project and the registration process. In December 2023 our RSIS Project will be heading to Kui Buri National Park in Thailand to address issues arising from human/elephant coexistence in villages that sit on the edge of Kui Buri National Park. The project will include working with teams on the ground to accelerate different aspects of an ongoing programme to construct a community research centre, park ranger huts, lookout towers, hornbill nest boxes and beehive fences. The team will also be helping to plant alternative crops, such as lemongrass and citrus plants, which act as a natural barrier and corridor for protecting elephants and farmers, as part of the Tom Yum Project.
Students who are interested, are welcome to see Ms Hutchinson in the Library or email vicki.hutchinson@stphilips.nt.edu.au for more information, or visit the Round Square website (roundsquare.org) for photos and information about past projects.
The application process is quite detailed and will take some time to fill out, however, the spots should fill quickly, so students and families are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later when the information comes out.
