Principal's Message

Diverse ~ Accepting ~ Inclusive Community

Dear Parents, Families and Friends,

A lovely way to start a new term is two four-day weeks!

It was great to see students in all year levels marching in the ANZAC Day parade. They were wonderful ambassadors for the College. Our ANZAC service at school the next day was very moving, orchestrated by Sarah Pollitt, with Peter Gilham in his fifth appearance in three days on the trumpet, and our own College Life Governor, Chris Tudor reading the ode. It was lovely to see the working crew from the Discovery Centre down tools and join in too.

At our assembly last week, my position and those of the Deputy Principals, Tammy Hawkins and Steve Kimber were celebrated with both Deputy Chairs of the Board, John Huigen and Lyndon Frearson, making it official. I very much appreciate the support of the school community as I continue the fine traditions of this College while also looking to the future and the changes that life brings.

This week it is great to see camp season get underway with Year 8 students and staff heading off on a five-day Outdoor Adventure. The weather is perfect for the many activities that are planned, and these experiential learning opportunities are an integral part of our culture and curriculum. At our many reunions it is so often we hear our alumni reminisce about the amazing experiences they had on camp, and I strongly encourage all our students to take advantage of one of the best programs in the country.

The Parents’ & Friends’ Association also had a meeting this week and it was wonderful to meet new people, but to also see the dedicated parents who are always present for their children. Just a reminder that every parent and guardian is automatically a member of the P&FA and we hope you can join us at the next meeting in Term 3. Next Friday we will be handing out flowers at the drop-off zone to celebrate the mothers in our community and on the same day will be hosting the Alice Food Festival.  I very much hope families come out to celebrate this community event together.

Finally, this is the first of only three newsletters for the term. It’s become clear that this is no longer a preferred method of communication for most families, so we are reducing their frequency.  I will be sending out an email to all parents early next week to share what learning programs we delivered in Term 1 to give students the tools to improve their wellbeing and to embed our Round Square culture into the school.

Kind regards,
