News from One/Two

Welcome to term 2! We hope you all had a lovely Easter break.

What a lovely start to the week, with outdoor creative play and school photos. The 1/2 students reflected on the Easter story during RE and students created a replica tomb (out of natural materials) reenacting the story of Mary and the other women going to Jesus' empty tomb.

We are super excited to be studying the topic of Sustainability this term and encourage any green-thumb parent helpers (who have their Working With Children's Card) to assist us at various times in the vegetable garden throughout the term. The 1/2 class combined with the Prep children will mostly be gardening on a Friday.

Also, this term we will be doing news sharing. Children are encouraged to sometimes bring in and talk about a particular topic each week during their news day. Here is an outline of the news topics each week and the days on which your children will be presenting. Please don't let your child bring anything too precious as it may get lost at school. Thank you.

Week 2- Discuss what you did during the Easter holidays.

Week 3- Discuss your favourite food.

Week 4- Discuss your favourite outdoor area.

Week 5- Discuss who is in your family (bring in or email a photo to your teacher).

Week 6- Discuss your favourite hobby (bring in an example or email a photo to your teacher).

Week 7- Discuss your favourite animal or pet (bring in or email a photo to your teacher).

Week 8- Discuss your favourite music.

Week 9- Discuss what you will be doing during the winter school break.

Importantly, next Monday the 1st of May is 1/2TF's Assembly performance. We hope to see you there at 2:15 pm (SPA centre). Lots of photos will be taken for parents who can't attend.

Spelling homework and take-home readers will commence again on Monday the 1st of May. Please also remember that the Victorian Premiers Reading competition has started. All children have been given a login where they can register the books at https://vprc.eduweb.vic.gov.au/home that they have been reading. I hope that our class will have the most readers! May the competition between classes begin!

Just like Term 1, Term 2's 1/2TF’s specialist/extracurricular activities and teacher timetable will look something like this:

Monday (Mrs T) - Performing Arts and (reading folders to go home)

Tuesday (Mrs T) - Japanese and PE ( children to please wear sports uniform)

Wednesday (Mr F)- *Library borrowing ( children to please bring a library bag)

Thursday (Mr F)- Art/STEAM and lunch orders due

Friday (Mrs T) - (reading folders returned) and lunch order day

*Library may not occur every week, depending on the time constraints of the day.

Thank you for supporting your child's education.

Kindly,

Jacqui Tarquinio and Terry Foley
