Canteen News
Hello from the Canteen
We are now into term 2 and it has been lovely to see the kids coming in with a smile. We have had two successful specials in term 1 and are hoping to have a special or 2 this term as well. We have some amazing year 5 and 6 children who volunteer their lunch time to help us in the canteen and we thank them for their hard work, we would be lost without them!! They are learning new skills, and this also helps them with their confidence and maths skills.
How can you help us? Place orders! Help keep us going.
Student reminders
We would like to remind all students to line up respectfully and wait their turn in the canteen and to use their manners. Students with frozen treat vouchers need to bring them to the canteen to be able to receive their treat. And please, when possible, try not to send children with notes larger than $10.00 unless you are ordering lunches for more than one child.
Stock and menu update
Most of our canteen items still remain on the menu. The crispy chicken wraps (available Tuesday and Wednesday only) continue to be very popular. Meat Pies and Sausage rolls are still unfortunately unavailable until we can find a new supplier. There are times where we need to increase some prices slightly and hope everyone understands. We will be adjusting Qkr! to reflect this as our prices increase. Our QKR! menu is undergoing a re-vamp and will be made simpler for parents and students to navigate and easier to order from. This will also show current availability and specials so please use this method to order when possible. Parents and students are also still able to come into the canteen to purchase food for lunches or a special treat from our frozen range.
Preschool
It has been great to see some preschool orders being placed in the last few weeks. Preschool students are welcome to order lunches, drinks, and snack foods (unfortunately not frozen treats unless you are wanting to order one of our Birthday Buckets) however they must use QKR! to order. If a preschool cash order needs to be placed, please visit the canteen 9.00-9.30am to place the order. If you need help setting up QKR! please come in and see us in the in the canteen or the school office so we can help you do this. Any lunch orders will be delivered to the preschool at lunchtime by our team of year 5/6 helpers.
Ordering cut-off time
The cut-off time for QKR! orders is 8.50am each morning. Please check orders carefully and make sure you have selected the right day for your order.
Sometimes QKR! gets overloaded and takes some time to process orders, so try not to leave ordering until the last minute! Any cash orders still need to be brought down in the class tray by 9.15am. If you have pre-ordered food on QKR! and your child is going to be absent, please cancel the order by 9.30am or it will be charged for. (Applies to lunch food items only. Drinks, snacks, and ice-creams can be held until the next day) To cancel, ring the front office and ask to be transferred to the canteen. Children arriving late and wanting to do cash orders will have limited choices and will not be able to order after 10.30am.
Our Canteen needs YOU
We really need more parent volunteers for us to stay open and bring you wonderful in-house cooked meals. You do not need to make a regular commitment to volunteer, even coming in when we have a canteen special and need volunteers to help cook would help. It is all appreciated. Volunteers enable us to cook our delicious, healthy meals on site and keep our pricing LOW. Students also love to see their families being involved in the school community. We welcome mums, dads, grandparents, carers etc. - no experience is necessary. The canteen supervisor will guide you through the morning with preparation of lunches, bulk cooking or even cleaning. Any help is greatly appreciated.
The canteen operates 4 days per week – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Our volunteer shifts are from 9.00am until Midday (once lunches have been distributed). It doesn’t need to be every week. Just times that suit your schedule!
A Working with Children Check is required but easily obtained and you also must complete a Volunteer Induction course online and the school will assist you with this. If you are able to give the canteen some of your time, please see Karran or Michelle at the canteen or email parent.support483@schools.sa.edu.au.
