Holiday Projects

During the recent school holidays, our school remained busy with a number of maintenance and improvement projects in progress. To improve our access to online learning, our whole wifi network and infrastructure has been upgraded. This will place us in a good position as technology evolves and we incorporate more into student learning.

Our gym floor was in need of surface repair so we were able to use the break to have it totally stripped and re-oiled. Students had been requesting lines to define courts,

particularly a basketball court and this was also completed. We now have courts marked for a number of sports including basketball, netball and volleyball. So exciting and supportive of our whole school PE program.

To help us connect with students and visitors when they come into our office, we decided to make our counter in the Student Services area lower. It's been a really positive improvement for students (particularly the smaller ones) who can now see staff behind the desk and chat with them easily.

Our New Residents

During the holidays, we also welcomed 4 new residents to Para Vista Primary School. Our chickens are settling in well and our staff and Environmental Leaders are about to start working on a care and feeding roster so all classes can have responsibility for their care.

The next job we have is to give them all names. Whilst they look quite similar at the moment, they all have some distinguishing features and are starting to show personality. We will be running a naming contest soon so look out for this. In the meantime, start thinking.......

Working Bee - Save the Date

We are so lucky to have huge grounds at Para Vista Primary School. To help us give some of our areas a makeover, we will be holding a working bee on Saturday 3rd June 9.00am-12.00pm. During this time, we will concentrate on the area around our chicken enclosure, our vegetable beds, the indigenous bush tucker garden and the preschool outdoor space. More information will be sent out soon but we look forward to seeing lots of our families come along, even for a small amount of time, to help us with these jobs. Children are welcome and morning tea will be supplied.

Walk Safely to School Day

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 19 MAY 2023

Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking!

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around.

And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.  You can teach your

child the healthy habit of walking more by:

• Walking with them the whole way to school

• If they get the bus, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop

• If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes, it also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.

Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids!
