Growth Mindset
Going into the holidays we thought it might be nice to remember how we will continue growing and learning even when we are not at school.
Having a growth mindset can help the students immensely in their journey through school. We all have beliefs about our potential and ability that help shape our mindsets. These beliefs are so powerful they can influence our behaviour and predict our success! A growth mindset occurs when we believe our abilities can improve with the right strategies and effort. Characteristics of a growth mindset include a willingness to confront challenges, a passion for learning, and viewing failure as simply an opportunity for growth.
We can help nurture a growth mindset in our students by:
- Watching films that show people overcoming challenges and discussing the challenges the characters were facing.
- Have students interview people in their lives about a challenge they faced.
- Having students continue to challenge themselves by choosing harder tasks and encouraging their attempts.
Obtaining a growth mindset takes lots of practice but will be beneficial for our students throughout their whole lives. To find out more visit: https://www.6seconds.org/2019/02/18/9-ways-to-teach-a-growth-mindset-to-kids/ https://hbr.org/2016/01/what-having-a-growth-mindset-actually-means
