News and Notices
From the Principal
Welcome back to Term 2. We have an exciting and busy term ahead with lots of opportunities for community involvement. Please take a look at the Important Dates for your Diary page of this newsletter so that you are aware of what is happening in and around school.
There will be a number of permission slips coming home asking you for permission to take the children out of school to various events. Please complete these and send them back as soon as possible.
We would like to extend a special welcome to Charlie, Joseph, Phoebe and Azai who joined school at the beginning of this term.
ANZAC Day Service
Over the holidays, RidgeView School was invited to take part in the Paremoremo ANZAC Day Service. Romy and Kingsley Boardman joined the community and did a wonderful job representing our school. Romy read confidently and Kingsley placed the wreath in a dignified manner.
It was wonderful to see other children from school and to catch up with some of our older RidgeView children.
Cross Country Trial
I have a number of children who are keen to take part in the cross-country at Coatesville later this term. In order to give the children an understanding of how far they need to be able to run, I would like them to have a run around the village on Monday 15 May at 9am (weather permitting).
I need people to stand at various points along our track and help the children cross roads if needs be or make sure they go in the right direction. It shouldn't take more than about 15 minutes of your time.
Please let me know if you are able to help!
Friends of RidgeView School (FORS)
We are holding a meeting on Monday 8 May 2023 at 3pm for everyone who is able to help us organise social events for the children and fundraising events for the community and supporting the school in other ways. There are always a lot of little jobs to be done in and around the school and it is very helpful to get ideas from everyone. Please do come along and lend a hand.
Before School Care
This term we are trialling opening Before School Care from 7am. We need to make sure that we can cover our costs, so we will see how many people are making use of the service by the end of the term.
Spare Clothes
We seem to have moved into the wet time of year again when children of all years slip and fall in the mud. Please can you make sure that your child has a spare set of clothes in their bag - it does not have to be school uniform.
Trampoline
Our children have done an amazing job of using the trampoline in a sensible and fair way. We are therefore going to leave the trampoline up as an area where the children can play.
Murals
It has taken a year from conception to finalising our murals. They are being installed on the fence as I type and I'm sure you will be impressed by the standard of the work that the children produced. A special thank you to James and The Shed Shop for helping us with materials and to Lucy who helped us get the murals finished and up to standard.
Invitation
On the last day of Term 2 we are going to celebrate Matariki with a community breakfast. I will send out more details, but we would like to invite our community whānau to come along and join us.
Heads Up
Just a heads up that the following days are coming up this term:
Pink Shirt Day - We all dress up in a pink shirt to express our support of anti-bullying. Any money raised goes to the Pink Shirt Appeal.
Book Character Parade - As the culmination of Book Week, everyone dresses up as a character from a book and we have a parade.
PJ Day - Our Student Leaders want to organise a PJ Day as a fundraiser for school.
School Readers
We are still missing a number of our reading books. Please could you make sure that your child returns all of the school reading books.
Lost Property
We are being inundated with lost clothing, shoes and swimming togs. Please could you check if your child is missing anything and take it back. We still have some things from last year which we are going to give away.
Telephone Number
Our new telephone number is 027 593 5963.
